Interview Techniques

For all agencies, hospitals and aged care facilities it is becoming increasingly important that who you are not just what skills you possess. With this in mind we hope that these tips will assist you in preparing for a successful interview. Many will use behavioural based interview techniques, and outlined below are some pertinent interview questions that you may well be asked and that we feel you should be prepared for:

  • What is it that attracted you to this role?
  • How could you apply your current skills to the role?
  • What do you see as the difference between an institutional culture and a commercial culture?
  • Given the information in the job description and your own knowledge of agencies, what specifically (skills) could you bring to us?
  • Tell me about an experience where you had to Chastise or dismiss a staff member
  • Tell me about an experience where you had to counsel a staff member
  • How would you handle an angry client?
  • Scenario - Tell me about a time when you were rostered onto a busy ward
  • Scenario - You know other staff need an extra break but they simply have no time for one
  • Scenario - An emergency arises within your ward and one of the other staff goes off the rails
  • How did you cope, and what did you do to ensure you completed all of your required tasks ?
  • What do you hope to achieve in your nursing career?
